I wasn't sure what to expect from this video at first. I was guessing it was just another hood anthem, but it surprised me. This track does a good job of encouraging the youth of New Orleans to not get caught up in the street life, as well as pay tribute to some of New Orleans' fallen and incarcerated legends.. It doesn’t feel forced, and the message is right on point. It is even a little emotional to watch the main character’s friends “leave the porch”, when you realize that symbolizes their death in the streets.

Dizzy (Raw D.I. ) and Kidd Kidd ( Nutt Da Kidd) were both formerly in Lil Wayne's old group, Sqad Up, back in the day. The same group that current YM alum Gudda Gudda was a part of.

But if ya'll have been reading this blog, then you already know that. Every now and then I hear a new track from Dizzy, but I am not as big of a fan of him as I was back in the Sqad Up days. Yoo, so for around a year now, Electronic Takeove (bka Electronic TKVR) has been throwing dance parties etc at Le Maison on Frenchmen St. and more recently at The Saint, Ampersand, and soon to be at Voodoo fest. The Mobile tunnel. It took like 7 or 8 hours to get here from New Orleans yesterday. I have to say, Mobile looked pretty cool as we approached on the highway. And the reason I posted this, is because this tunnel is pretty damn cool too. I donno I like things of all shapes and sizes and functions. As we entered, it swooped down into the earth. A white, shining tube with no visible exit in sight. But it was short and we popped out into the pre-hurricane weather soon enough. So in short, eventhough most of those 8 to 9 hours were spent crawling down the interstate with no food except for an apple we had been writing on, it was worth it just to see a place outside of N.O. to visit.

Candle Light Lounge. Tight lil place in the Treme. Olympics on TV and Treme BB a few nights a week. I like Treme and I got to explore a lil the other night. I felt like I was deep in the neighborhood but surprisingly Candle Light was only a block from Claiborne and around the corner was Club Fabulous. Haha I can't stop thinking I sound like a hipster as I write this but man, its tight! Haha Club Fabulous is right on Claiborne Ave under the bridge and what makes it stand out for me are the two Black Panthers lieing in in the grass painted on the front. I'll have to take a picture of that one next time. Anyway, back to candle light. Hopefully I will go back with Ivana and some friends and see Treme Brass Band. This time we just chilled out and drank a Bud Light or two as Jamaica raced around the track for Olympic gold. Naice

This is a busy time in New Orleans. Lots of things happening. School is coming to a close, Mardi Gras Indians are massing, concerts are happening, Second lines, Jazz Fest is coming up. All kinds of things. And today I have Super Sunday Mardi Gras Indian pictures along with last Sunday's Second Line pictures. And just so you know this is how I'm feelin...

This month on the 19th this special event is happening at the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. The Creole Wild West Tribe will be telling their story with the help of some others and I will be in the house to document it for you.

Every Thursday morning at 2am DJ EF Cuttin and myself host a radio show on WTUL 91.5 Tulane radio. We try to showcase as much local hip hop and underground shit as possible....although EF likes to throw in a few soon to be Mega Hits. Anyway, I finally met a local cat by the name of Lil' Dee last monday at Industry Influence. EF and I decided to start having artists on the show, so he was the first. His boy Chance came along to film as we interviewed him and invited him to freestyle on the mic. All in all a fun show and a cool video came out of it as well. Peep this...

Industry Influence Goes Down. Plus Is Chris Paul Signed To Young Money?

Every First Monday of The Month! Industry Influence @ The Hangar

Every first Monday of the month, Wild Wayne of Q93 Radio and Sess 4-5 of Nuthin But Fire Records, have been putting on a Hip Hop Industry Influence showcase and panel at the Hangar in mid-city. I have attended the last two and I really enjoyed them.

As ChiQ Diva said, Industry Influence is, "the only platform in New Orleans for independent artists to not only showcase their talent, but to learn the business of music as well."

The conference is really a great opportunity to mingle, network, gain knowledge, and prepare for New Orleans to showcase its diverse talents.

As you can see I will be there with my co-host DJ EF Cuttin and a gang of other regional DJ's to share our experience and ideas with the crowd. Like I said, there will be a showcase after the panel with quite a few local artists performing. I will keep ya'll updated and upload pics, but until then check out the blog at www.IndustryInfluence.com . They were repping LSU heavy, because it was the weekend before the LSU-Ohio State Bowl game. Plus I think most of the people that know about the Adult Sock Hop are from LSU. A woman from Q93 Radio was there and she made the comment that it was not a "Typical" Hip Hop crowd. Which is true. Not necessarily a bad thing, just odd. Basically if you can imagine, all white people dressed in LSU hats, with khaki shorts and a Polo shirt, and topped of by some boat shoes. That is a huge generalization, but I think it is the start of an interesting discussion. Fivestarr definetly noticed the differance. No guns were drawn.

Aight, so I went to Baton Rouge Wednesday night with my boy Ben to see Partners 'N' Crime with DJ Jubilee. But really what I want to get into right now is this!

I was walking to the record strore on Canal St. with my Hip Hop For Hope buddies and as we turned the corner guess who walked by? Nutt Da Kidd from Sqad Up! I was pretty much in disbelief but I had to holler "Nutt!" and speak to one of my favorite rappers. Of course I didn't really know what to say, so I told him about HIp Hop For Hope. He said that he was interested in doing it so quickly that I wasn't sure if he was serious, but I got his number and kept it movin.

Its's not uncommon to meet people who are in the rapping business that don't seem to take things to seriously. Tell them you want them to come in to the radio station for an interview and they never call you back. Which is really odd to me because it's not like they are busy and second, they are in the business selling their music. This wasn't the case with Nutt though. He answered every phone call and was just really easy to work with. A really open guy. It seems like most people keep me at arms length, but he was just really easy to work with.

Like I said I was trying to get him for Hip Hop For Hope , so I wanted to meet with him sometime to just discuss everything. We finally met up at Gene's Po Boys on the corner of St. Claude & Elysian Fields Ave. Now this doesn't sound crazy, but for me, this has been one of my favorite rappers, and coming from Michigan I would have never thought that I could just open up my cell phone, call up Peanut, and ask him what he wanted to eat at Gene's. This is turning into a long story but it is just that.

He sat down and I introduced myself again as we waited for our hot sausage po boys. I told him a little about where I was from and how big of a fan I was of him and the Sqad, and imeadiately we started talking about everything! Everytime I would listen to Sqad Up I would think of things that I would like to ask them, but I never really imagined it would be this easy! Especially when asking about Lil Wayne and the rest of the group, since Wayne & the Sqad had a pretty bitter break up, and the Sqad seems to be in a state of flux. It was like the perfect interview should, just a conversation between two people. I asked question and he volunteered info. I guess I should have recorded it but I had met him solely with the purpose of discussing Hip Hop For Hope so I didn't prepare to have an awesome time. By the time we fnished talking, Gene's had filled up with people waiting for food at like 9:30pm.

We headed outside, but I had no plans of finishing our conversation. by that time we had covered everything from why Sqad Up and Lil Wayne broke up, to why Lil Wayne is, essentialy a wack ass person. I mean if you know anything about southern rap you know that Lil Wayne is good rapper, but you have to know that he is not really a "gangster" and is not a "real" dude which is why he is not accepted in hoods accross the city. If you were a fan of Lil Wayne like I was, and you followed him from the Hot Boys, to Sqad Up, to now, you can sort of piece together the details of his life and see what kind of person he is. This could turn into a rant by me, but there are so many instances that Nutt and I talked about where you would think "what is wrong with this guy [Wayne]?!". Like how jealous and little he is. For instance Nutt would tell me, "Like if you were at a concert, and Gudda was spittin and everybody was sayin his lines, Wayne would get upset. Like we would get on the bus and Wayne would be like, "Who the fuck is you?! Oh you think you hot!?"".

Excuse the language, I guess, but basicly Wayne is just a shitty ass person. Some people would say a Bitch. I mean for his birthday, he cried because Sqad Up didn't get him a present. He puts rappers from the 17th ward like P Town Moe on his tracks to try to gain credability. He put Curren$y and Mack Maine on his label after Sqad left to try to make them feel bad. Like he had just gotten dumped by a girl, and when Curren$y and Maine came around before he would play with them like they weren't good enough to be running with him. He says everything is business, about money, etc. but it is obvious that everything is personal to him and just like his "daddy" if you try to out shine him, or if you want to do your own thing, or if a girl talks to you and not him then there is going to be a fuss.
This isn't what Nutt told me verbatum, but it is pretty much what he told me and what is generally what is accepted as the truth. Of course he is a great rapper, and I would have some questions for him as well, but as far as havin respect for him as a man, I doubt it. Don't call me up if I post a pic with me shaking his hand or if I put his music on my page, because this blog is about New Orleans music. Peace.

I am not even going to acknowledge that I haven't posted for a while, and Im just gonna jusmp straight into it.

Facebook is an awesome tool for college students, and so is HoustonSoReal.blogspot.com , which is why I use them both frequently. HoustonSoReal posted a thing about the Dude & Coughee Brotherz U.S.A. tour, and when I saw that it was coming through N.O. and stopping at Tipitina's I marked my calender. Then I made a Facebook event. Then through Facebook I saw that Mannie Fresh, Rebirth Brass Band, Anthony Anderson, and others were going to be at Howlin' Wolf the same night. So looong story short, I made it to both, but unfortunetly I missed everything after Del did his set. Sorry, maybe I will make it out to Baton Rouge tomorrow, or Ann Arbor MI the 28th.

I just got wind of this new solo track by Jay Gudda, and I'm really glad to see it. Sqad up was once one of my favorite groups long before I had ever came to New Orleans, but they haven't put out much work since Katrina...atleast not that I have heard. I hear through the grape vine, from the groups seperate Myspace accounts, that they aren't doing as much work together. I hope they don't have any problems but none the less its good to hear some new music from one memeber. So here it is...

Yo Yo Yo, hold on! Wait a second!! Chech this shit out. I just found something I have been wanting to here for a looong time. Lil Wayne's song "Tha Heat" from the original Carter CD, but with one differance....Gudda Gudda on tha track! I don't know if this is old new, but it's sure new to me. If ya'll don't know, Gudda Gudda is part of Sqad Up, the group that Lil Wayne once claimed to be in for life. Lil Wayne had put Gudda Gudda, Nutt Da Kidd, T Streets, and Raw Dizzy, on the Carter(Im guessing all of them) and then re-did most of the album when the group left due to contract disagreement. I knew that was Gudda's line, "Tha heater burnin bruises on my hip this year!"

It looks like Lil Wayne and his DJ, Raj Smooth, put this out on the net, since every one of the "Carter Files", as they are titled on Limewire, have their names on them. There is a song with his former girl Nivea, pretty good, and a song with Raw Dizzy also pretty good, and a Hott Hott beat on the song "Hoes Sing" with his self proclaimed brother Yung Yeezy aka Yung Yo. It sounds like it would have been a somewhat differant album, with some tighter beats for sure, if they had kept it together. Damn, what would the world be like if it was Sqad Up and Wayne on the cover of XXL instead of Baby and his son....

You true Wayne/Sqad fans need to download this stuff ASAP. I bout to put Tha Real Carter together, the way it would have been!

Soul Rebels came down to the studio as I said, on the 27th. I was glad to just get someone in the studio to talk to period, but these guys have some history. We talked about their upcoming show and all the new stuff, but I started asking how they were able to keep everything together and sounding good while doing shows every other day almost. New Olreans has quite a few good marching bands, and apparently they have a bit of there musical roots in college marching bands. The discipline and dedication they learned from being in a structured school band carried over into their professional lives, to a point where they almst didn't see the amount of work they were putting in as dedication. They just saw it as, "What you do". I can't front and say that I know their history, but it is obvious to see that they deserve what they are getting and it is nice to see a group of guys defying what the majority of america would see as the norm. Soul Rebels Interview On The 27th!!! Also Jena, LA Injustice!

Thats right the Soul Rebels Brass Band will be doing an interview with my man The Schwartz on WTUL 91.5 New Orleans, at 6:00 pm on Monday the 27th of August! As I said earlier the Soul Rebels will be putting on "An Evening With The Soul Rebels" at Tipitina's on Tchoupatoulus on the 31st. That's the weekend after next people!

In other news, right now I am working with my boy Ben to put together the Second Annual Hip Hop For Hope Concert. Hopefully I can bring some big names from New Orleans to get on and get some sponsors as well.

I just read about this now. In northern Louisiana, in the town of Jena rascism is still quite alive. This is a touchy subject for everyone but even if it had nothing to do with race it still is very important to me and it should be to you! Read this Jena 6 Article By Bill Quigley Here!

I know it was hard enough for ya'll to read what I have to say but definetly take a few minutes out to read that because Kids are being put in jail for decades in our own state, while we think rascism and injustice are a thing of the past. hahahaha I am in the studio once again with my favorite DJ , Ms. Conduct, and King Louis of Black Rose Band! Karen does a great Progressive show Mondays from 4-6pm, and even though I just met/heard of him King Louis was here and he gave a pretty interesting interview.

He also brang all the music to the show. Apparently he has a cult following down at American Apparel.

This guy sounds like a hardcore punk rocker. Or as he says "I sound like RUN DMC and Lynard Skinard" which could be potentially deadly.

My boy K.C. , is in the local funk/new orleans band Flow Tribe aka "The Nice Band That Eats Souls" and he and his have a big ol' Shindigg goin down at Tipitina's on the 23rd. It's called Homegrown Night.

Should be three other local acts as well as Flow Tribe. He just handed me their CD so after I give it a good listen I'll post one or two for ya. I will definetly be there at the legendary Tip's to chill and document and bring the hot fire to ya'll

So I have been Staying up all night and sleeping all day which mostly sucks. The good thing about it is after a while you start to find cool things on the internet. Now the trick is to do this during the day because I just can't stand staying in my apartment much longer.

Firstly I have decded to share more of the things I come across with yall. One of them is Risurch clothing.Risurch Clothing Which so far, I have bought three of their T-shirts. They aren't totally mind bottling or anything but the simple designs of Hip Hop/Rap artists and other urban american icons are appealing to me. I'll talk more about that for those of you who want to read but here are some pics.

Unfortunetly I am not computer literate enough to get single pics. So instead here is the entire ebay post! Ha, anyway I discovered this guy on ebay, selling all sorts of graffic tees with the like of Michael Jordan, Wu Tang Clan, and even the Hot Boys. I really like Dipset, so that is how he first caught my eye. I am calling Risurch "he" because I assume its a one man operation. Even so he has managed to crank out a gang of designs that I think are just right.

He appeals to me because I want something to wear to show people that I like this group or that movie, but not look like everyone else. Thats the beauty of catching something before it gets big I guess. A lot of people now a days want things that are "exclusive" and so a whole industry has sprung up in NY and LA which I don't really have the vocab or patience to describe well, but basically it just makes me feel shitty. They are selling things that are new that look like they could have come from the bag of clothes I was sending to goodwill, but because of the hype they get bought. Common complaint I am sure, but makes me sick just the same.

This might look crusty in five years, but atleast it will still make sense to rap fans.

On another note. I came accross this site called VBS.TV quite some time ago on houstonsoreal's blog when they did this series on Houston. VBS.TV is really a cool site I recommend going there ASAP and watching any and all videos. Definetly not a waste of time. They do videos on things ranging from hitch hiking to Mo Rocca to Screwed Music and Purple Drank to Indy Racing to skateboarding. I would love to make money doing things like that, and maybe I will. If i can't get out of this damn house.I just enjoyed this one particularly. They had one about Bounce Music but I really wasn't feeling it. Nothing against Katey Red, but I dont want to see he/her put on his panty hoes. The video was done by the same guy who does the "Whudafuxup" anti-smoking commercials. the thing is Everyone notices that New Orleans has a sound all its own, which is Bounce, but i don't feel like anyone does it justice. Maybe thats because, in all truthfulness, its not the most creative form of music and is mostly about shakin that ass and ridin a dick. Maybe, but someone still needs to document it better, and maybe it will be me. Word.

NOLA Councilman Oliver Thomas Guilty!

Now I don't report on the political goings on about NOLA, but I was checking out a few New Orleans blogs and I see that every single one had some mention of this. I have always been concerned with the way things are handled down here, and it seems like bad and corrupt things just keep happening.

Earthlink gives free WiFi to the residents of uptown, but you have to log in to their website every 12 hours. Every time I log in it takes me to this local news page, and every time I read the headlines, someone is killed murdered or attacked. This seems crazy to me and I feel like some of you who aren't from New Orleans might not know these things. Like how many murders we have and how corrupt people still are.

Now back to this Oliver Thomas guy. I have seen him on local TV a few times, and he seems like a good guy. Like a friendly guy.

But I find out that, just today he resigned and pleaded guilty to taking bribes and kickbacks while councilman. Apparently he took $15,000 from Stan Barre, who owns Common Street Ventures, for a contract in the French Quarter. Thomas also asked Barre to hire his personal friend and then pay him one third of the proceeds from that contract. Oliver's friend then gave him $1000 kickbacks four times.

I feel like this is only the very tip of the iceberg. Not to down my adopted home, but it just seems to be the truth down here. For instance, some time ago New Orleans' U.S. Representative William Jefferson was caught taking $100,000 in bribes by the FBI. They then raided his home in Washington and his congressional office and found $90,000 of the money in his freezer. But the crazy thing is he has apparently sought gifts or bribes 7 other times and after all of this he was just re-elected!!! All sorts of things happen down here that, in my opinion, go unnoticed by life long residents because that is how things have worked for so long down here. For instance with Jefferson, everyone form the Federal government to Rolling Stone Magazine made outcries about his corruption, but when local Sheriff Harry Lee told his Parish to vote against Karen Carter, Jefferson won anyway. Interesting stuff. To me anyway.

I haven't been doing much this week, so thats why all the pics of me, and no pics of New Orleans. Or new music. Kangol Slim is supposed to be hooking me up with PNC's new single and P Town is supposed to be getting me a CD but I left my charger in MI so its been hard to communicate. I am about to by some damn Skype credits, and call em over my computer.

It sure is nice having a computer, internet, TV, and an apartment, but damn it makes you lazy if you don't stay on you toes. Graff artist Banksy once said "Get out of the house, before you find a reason to stay in", damn good advice. Tommorow I get to try to get a dorm room, try to get my block lifted so I can register for classes (how many days till school?), try to get a job, try to finish DJ homework. Man I got some shit to do. Oooh yeah, I also have to find somewhere to stay and put all of my boxes before school. Man I hope this year goes well.

I really haven't been using this blog to speak my mind, but I am going to do some more of that. I know Johnny Bapo isn't the best name and so one day I was wondering what name would better define what this blog is. I was thinking of things with phrases like "...of America" or "...Worldwide" and then I realized that I am about more than New Orleans rap, I am about more than whats in America, I am even about more than this world, like Space for instance! I want to put interesting material for people to look at but I don't want to pigeon hole myself. So just expect to see any and everything that is good on my blog. Yeah I am at Tulane University, in the basement of the LBC, doing the "Hip Hop" show at WTUL, with my man Bryan!

As you can see we keep it white and throwed. My man Bryan is a sweet dude though, seeing as I just met him tonight when I came in at 12am to apprentice, but we kicked it, and "rapped" in the old sense of the word. He's from Atlanta but went to school here and stayed in New York for a couple years after that and apparently DJ'd in a booth on the street there. He told me to check out www.eastvillageradio.com which show what he was doing. A pretty interesting site with pics and show schedules, and I think podcasts. He was playing a lot of east coast hip hop, but also saying we needed to put on some authentic New Orleans jonts, so I pulled out my laptop. Then he pulled out some vinyl of Raj Smooth, Mannie Fresh, P Town Moe, I played some Soulja Slim, Raw Dizzy, Partners 'N' Crime, and all that. We had a really good time talking mostly about rap and New Orleans history. I think it is interesting that outsiders love to get so passionate about New Orleans. Not to say that New Orleanians don't care about their city, but when we see how New Orleans used to have its own Hip Hop/Rap culture here , we get all excited and talk about what we would like to learn more about or document.

He dipped out at 2am and he said no one else was coming in and he was just going to shut the station down. So I just sorta took it over which was pretty cool. I played everything from Diplomats, to E-40, to Trae, Cougphee Boys, Kaz Kyzah, and Frayser Boy. I don't know if anyone liked it because I got no calls but luckily the FCC didn't barge in are cut my hands off, for obscenity. I was worried about that.

Right now I am listening to DJ Don Juan, who is doing a progressive show with some really interesting music. This song he's got on right now is like an audio collage about the music industry, with little sound clips of interviews mixed in and generic beuracratic type men talking about how they "own the music" and it "can under now cicumstances be copied". Good, interesting stuff. Oh and now Don Juan is telling me that this is actually two random tracks he just is playing at the same time! You see what we do here!? Stuff you won't find at Hot 97 or whatever. We MAKE music haha and we keep it crunk. Peace nerds!

Wagwon to all my fellow Bumbaclots! I made a new song....if you can even call it that. It's a Just Blaze/ Johnny Bapo colabo! And to the few of you who care, read this -> I am not a rapper, producer, baller or anything similair. I am really just a normal guy, but I am going to make a mixtape, and it is going to be me rapping and it is going to be good, damn it. I guess to prove it can be done, show my friends they are lazy, ad show "rappers" that they need to step their game up and expand their minds a little bit. Ha don't take me too seriously tho, I downloaded about one million and a half beats from Limewire recently, and I guess they are what attracts me to rap in the first place. The beats. And I love to learn about new things, and as you all know the best way, the funnest way, to learn is to do it. Write a book. Sing a song. Build a building. Date a girl. Or in the case make a mixtape. Their are plenty of rappers down here, and since its so easy, I am just going to ask any and everyone to feature on this mixtape.

This is the first Armory Arts building on Mechanic st. Behind the fair grounds. See it's got ART write on the front of the building incase you wondered. I beleive they have get togethers or open houses every 2nd saturday or sunday of the month. You can walk through the galleries and eat some barbeque and what not.

The old prison armory. Its being turned into an artists community with apartments and gallery space.

Now I have been watching this for some time, and I really like what is going on at the Armory Arts Project. It is an artists village, located on the grounds of the the old prison/armory. The old prison is something everyone in Jackson knows. Its imposing stone wall stands out to anyone who goes by. A really cool place to me. I beleive it dates back to the Civil War, but there are only a few buildings left. Namely the red building there, that is being remodeled. The brown brick building is part of the old warehouse district of Jackson. The train tracks, which played a major role in Jackson's economy, run directly behind it. I miss old building like this, so I am really glad they are preserving this area. Although they are apparently planning on building "town houses" inside the prison wall, which gives me sort of an ugly image, but we will see. The apartments/galleries are supposed to be cheaper so the "starving" artists can survive, but i was told the 64 new apartments in the red building will be from $400 up. That is cheap...in New Orleans, I don't know about Jackson, but I also hear that many of the new renters are coming from far away places...er farther away, like Grand Rapids. So I guess, if you build it they will come. People in Jackson think that there is no opportunity to make money there, but this guy just created one over the last couple years. Thats what I want to do man, put some love and time into a project and get the return. I want to benifit myself, but also the people around me, meaning my home, my birthplace, Jackson, Michigan.

Just had another show at the great, one and only, WTUL Ne Orleans 91.5 and guess who I ran into, comin to DJ was 10th Ward Buck. Another piece in the puzzle of New Orleans music. I never met him before, but I have seen him on Cox 10 before and when he said his name was Buck, I new who he had to be. Sort of weird seeing someone in a totally random place, like the basement, when you have only seen them on the tube. Hopefully we will be able to link up and get some good music on the air. I mean its all good but...you know. Any way, here are some of his recent exploits. If you aren't familiar with Bounce, it really came before new orleans hip hop/rap. It is a New Orleans fixture that you will not find anywhere else, and you might like it or you might not. It sure helps to get the girls dancin tho. Weed smoke and beers and white girls shakin some ass on stage! Thats how it goed down. I got dropped off down on Bourbon with my Bro. He went to work and I wandered down Canal an found my way to S. Peters and The Howlin' Wolf.

I have heard about this place quite a bit but this was my first time there. Soul Rebels Brass Band were up on stage, and lemmi just say, there is something special about bands like this in the south. Back where I am from my friends might look at me funny if I invited them to see a brass band , but down here, they kick it! Makes me wish I hadn't put my trombone down!

It was still early in the night, and they dipseted as soon as they were finished, but I met up with my man Marcus, of The Rebels, outside and he showed me some love and handed me their CD, so hopefully we can get them some air time at WTUL and if you all like some good, live jams, with a lil hip hop mixed in, hit this download up! Oh yeah, and in a "Step Your Game Up" thought I just had, I put their CD in iTunes and clicked "get CD artwork" and up popped the album cover. Just goes to show you can put out a good, complete product if you want to.

I just gotta say it, some of these girls (ie two in the blue) were just being goofy. Like ol girl just bouncing her big ol tities til the almost pop out and the other one bending over with some sort of short skirt thing on. Come on now that isn't smart.

keepin it soreal with tha fans. If you aren't from New Orleans (which I am not) then you might have to do some research to find out about the beginings of its hip hop/rap/and bounce scene. Some would say that these guys are a Bounce institution, and just by listening to them and the crowd following every phrase you can tell they deserve a little more credit. A lot of people think Cash Money or No Limit when they think new orleans but there is quite a bit more.

So apparently Juvie is in working on his new album as we speak, and did I hear that it might be called "400 Degrees" !? Interesting. I know PNC has been signed to UTP, but it sounds like they might not be with UTP anymore, from what I heard, and their myspace says "Free Agents" at the top. I dont mean to spread rumors but I found that interesting.

I know I am a little lazy because this happened a few weeks ago, but it was still a good time had by all and personally a great time for me. As mentioned in the P Town Moe post, I was a little drunk but there is no denying Freeway, Hell Rell, Raw Dizzy, Snypa, P Town, Ms. Tee, and Tysen (new to me). They all went on and did their things, and despite the random fight onstage with Tysen and almost the whole crowd, it went down! I first heard of Ms. Tee from B.G.'s Chopper City album, so I was excited to see what she had in store. I know there was someone else there besides the above because Chopper City Boy Snyper was guesting on a song, and I didnt notice his face but when I saw his shirt I realized I had been standing next to him in the crowd. Interesting what the dark hides. But I definetly didnt miss the opportunity to shake Raw Dizzy's hand and K Gates' hand and P Town's and my barber was in the crowd too. If anyone from New Orleans is reading this, I may sound nieve, but I never thought that I would be meeting the people I listened to on my ipod in such close quarters. I have been a fan of Raw D.I. since I first heard him with Wayne and the Sqad, but I know I that there is a lot going on in New Orleans, with him and others, under the radar so I have been trying to find some new music.

Fellow Super Dome employee, who I actually ran into today after working at Essence Music Fest.

Me and my personal best friend Raw Dizzy, it does not matter that I just met him.

Hell Rell spitin that hot fire. When I heard he was comin I just had to make it there but I was sort of confused at his performance. He forgot his lines a couple times. Still one of my favorite Dipseter's. I wish Killa Cam was there to do tha "Get Em Daddy" song.

Hell Rell with about 20 people who just appeared on stage, including Da Goonz who I see from Tulane to the Venue and all points in between.

Crunk Time Sam in the house! haha my only compadre. Still one of the funnest nights we've had.

Then Freeway came out after afew minutes of chanting his name, and the crwod was just lovin every song he did like they had just come out.

Went directly from tha concert to the house to pack and then an hour later to the Aeropuerto to catch a flight to denver.....ugggh i am hung overrr.

A couple new favorites are Raw D. I.'s " Keep The Party Goin", which the beat is crazy in my opinion but never the less, I love it. I'm not sure if Raj Smooth (young money DJ/ Producer) produced it, but I wouldnt doubt it.

Next is not really that underground or that new, but "Where I'm From" off of Lil Wayne's Prefix mixtape features P Town Moe and his brother M. T. . Lil Wayne has a lot of material out from mixtapes to albums to features and everyone agrees he is fire, but the reason I liked this one besides the hot beat and Wayne's catchy hook, was P Town and M.T. who I haven't heard much from since the Soulja Slim remix. That could be because I am not thoroughly immersed in the local new orleans scene yet but either way a hot song, plus the hook speaks of "Carrollton", which was where I made my adopted home for a while.

Another Raw Dizzy song. One I just got my hands on, also with Wayne on the hook, "Ridin Wit My Pistol". Now I am really a sucker for delicious production, and this is jsut a perfect example right here. Yet again I haven't figured out the producer but the beat brings it back to some quality "musical" production with multiple layers of varied instruments and an awesome sample of some classical music with violins and the whole nine. You know what I'm sayin, a beat like the one for UGK's "International Players Anthem" is great too but you can tell how much is the sample and how much was added by the producer. And when you hear a track with that lil somethin extra you know it.

Any way next song. Raw Dizzy Featuring Nut Tha Kid from Sqad Up on "Tough Love". It's a song that has what I love lyriclly. A true emotional rap from Nut and Dizzy about their past together and the strains they have gone through with Wayne and coming from the same hood (9th Ward) and just trying to make it. I enjoy lyrics a whole lot more when they are talking about something new and especialy when that something new is something emotional, when you can just hear the raw desire to make it in their voice.

On another artist...this really isn't underground but it's Young Jeezy and B. Geezy on " Hustler" which i hear is off of the "Best thing smokin" mixtape from DJ Smallz. Just thought I'd throw that in there, eventhough I would take any of the above three over this one, I have been curious about what's goin on with Geezy so I try to keep it up to date.

Aight, well a week ago I interviewed P Town Moe over here at Tulane and for my first time meeting him, it went pretty well. For those of you who dont know, I moved here from Michigan. And what I knew about New Orleans rappers was whatever I could find on the net, magazines, and in their music. I was able to piece things together pretty well, but lets just say my encounters with rappers were very limited. I live Uptown, in New Orleans, and I frequent the barber shop up on Carrolton. One time I was in there real late and P Town came in and my Barber pointed him out to me. Eventhough I didnt know to much of his work, coming from Jackson, MI it was somewhat of a shock to see someone I only knew from music. And every couple days I would see him ride down the street so one day I realized, " What am I doing? The same people that I have looked up to and listened to, are right here in this city and accessible to me, if I just get out there. I have always enjoyed learning things about people and asking questions so hopefully I asked some good one in this interview. Any way this story is in no way impressive but it is the truth. Enjoy!

P Town: My nickname is Moe, Pigeon Town is my neighborhood.

JB: So Pigeon Town is one of the neighborhoods in New Orleans. I hear a lot of different names , P Town, Hollygrove, Gert Town, why are the neighborhoods named like that?
PT: I was Just born and it was called that.

JB: So there is Pigeon Town and Hollygrove is right next to that?
PT: Yeah, this part of New Orleans is considered Carrolton, but it's also the 17th ward. There's Pigeon Town, Gert Town, Hollygrove, and Nigga Town. Pigeon Town is the second biggest neighborhood in Carrolton.

JB: New Orleans has a lot of rappers, but also many different neighborhoods. Does everyone get along pretty well and show love, or does hood repping cause drama?
PT: No, it's just representation.

JB: Are there some other local rappers coming from the 17th ward?
PT: Yeah, there's my brother, M.T., Bossman, T-Fool, and a few others.

JB: Aight, well lets take it back. When did you start rapping?
PT: Writing my own raps? Around 1991-92. That was a bad time in my life. Jail time. But I started with the bounce shit. And I started getting more into Hip Hop, but around 2000 I got back into bounce.

JB: Tell Me more about the bounce. That's a sound found only in New Orleans right. How did you get into that?
PT: Like I said, ya heard me, it was like 2000 2001 and like i said, you had my dude Josephine Johnnie, who represented Josephine St. in the 3rd ward. Then they had my dude 5th Ward Weebie, who represented the 5th ward, downtown. Ya know what Im sayin, so I been fuckin with Johnnie since like....since like shit in pampers, ya heard me.
JB: Hahaha
PT: Ya believe that, and me and Weebie been fuckin' round since when I come from jail, in '96 know'm sayin, so it's like "They holdin them down, I'm gon' hold P Town down. Then I did the P Town Moe thing, but it was just sposed to be for a Bounce purpose. Know'm sayin, just to get on the mic, record shit underground, but never put an album out Bounce, which I still haven't did, know'm sayin, but then when people started mistakin me, or taking me for Bounce, I backed away from it. And then When the punks started fuckin with the shit, know'm sayin, all the gay dudes,
JB: What!?
PT: Yes! Believe man!
JB: What are you talkin about?

JB: So they ruined it for the rest of you?
PT: Yeah, anything that came out after them, you were considered a punk. Thats just how it went, so I just backed all the way from it.

Just saw Little Brother at the Parish!

By far, the best show I've seen at the Parish(House of Blues)! They rocked out and sang accapella, and danced around and sweated all over the place. I got there a little late but Lil Brother's live band Orgone was up on stage jammin out with some , I dont know brazilian jam music. People were groovin a little bit but once LB came out people just went wild, and I had to get into the groovin right then and there or risk being on nerd status. Unfortunetly 9th Wonder was some where else, with Dick Chaney in an undisclosed location or something. But you really couldnt tell because Big Pooh and especially Phonte were jammin, and Orgone helped out a lot. As houstonsoreal says, it was thrwoed. I believe they went to houston the next day and did the same thing. So im glad I got to see that, adn for free. Good music.

So like I was saying earlier, after meeting those kids on Bourbon, I went to an orientation the next day at about one o'clock and made some friends and got learned some things about Tulane. After all that we went to the Reilly center for Casino night and gradually made our way to the Boot where there was nobody. But of course once Brian, Matt, Cameron, and I got there, then everyone showed up. Pretty much the best night I've had for a long time, much dancing and hot girls, and fat assed girls, and all that stuff that comes with college. Ah dont we all know.

This was at Ms. Mae's, cheapest drinks in town, and this kid in the orange works with my old roomate's brother. His arms are just very large to say the least and he just loved to arm wrestle. These couple guys just could not get enough of getting smoked by him because he would just toy with them for like 15 seconds and then crush them like nothing. And this one guy was talking about all this " I hit brick walls for fun, and punch glass windows for fun because it hurts less everytime you do it." And thats that.

Still in colorado but damn, it looks like the grand canyon. This place is crazy. In between the mountains it seems like no one would build anything. This place is beautiful and different. It's sort of weird. The cities are nice, things look better than new orleans in some ways and in some ways it looks like its trapped in the nineties. There are actually cars here older than 2000 which isn't special except in new orleans, i swear, all the cars are brand new. Even in the ghetto. Where are the black people? Thats probably what seems weirdest.
